AWARE Wildlife Rescue Center

AWARE Wildlife Rescue Center in Georgia is a non-profit organization that cares for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife while also educating people about wildlife's relationships with humans. Located just east of Atlanta, AWARE Wildlife Rescue Center accepts up to 2,000 wild animals every year for rehabilitation and education purposes. Their specialty lies in native Georgia wild animal rehabilitation - and is Georgia's sole licensed wildlife hospital. The center provides rehabilitation to birds, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians of all species and is run as a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that runs solely off donations from members of the public. Marjan Ghadrdan, Director of Animal Care at AWARE, reports that animals come to them from all corners of the globe; some were abandoned or orphaned while others are taken in by volunteers from all walks of life. Doing animal rescue work can be challenging and demanding work, yet its rewards can be immense. Larisa Epshteyn found great satisfaction in seeing seven raccoons and one red-shouldered hawk released back into the wild over her year working at the center.
