Thronateeska Heritage Center is a non-profit organization established in
1974 with the mission of historic preservation and science education throughout
Southwest Georgia. Situated on Heritage Plaza on West Roosevelt Avenue in
Albany, GA, its campus includes four museums: History Museum, Science Museum,
40' full dome HD planetarium, Georgia Museum of Surveying & Mapping and
South Georgia Archives. At Thronateeska Heritage Center in downtown, children can discover educational, cultural
and entertaining activities throughout Southwest Georgia. Home to the Wetherbee
Planetarium and Science Museum, this center provides children with engaging
exhibits that ignite their imaginations and intrigue about South Georgia's
vibrant past.
The Heritage Center, situated in downtown's historic railroad depot
district, features three attractions: History Museum, Imagination Station
(science discovery center) and Wetherbee Planetarium & science museum. For

colors - plus much more! At the History Museum in Albany, visitors can learn

It is an informative museum with plenty of new exhibits every day. There's

a child, I visited this museum, and it was an enchanting place. It had plenty
of engaging displays and you could take a tour around the entire building. The

European 19th and 20th-century paintings, drawings, sculptures,
watercolors, and prints. Additionally, it houses one of the largest collections
of traditional African art outside a university setting in Southeast Georgia. Established
in the 1960s as Southwest Georgia Art Association, the Albany Museum of Art now hosts an
average of 15 exhibitions annually. Located on six galleries and one children's
interactive space called AMAzing Space, their exhibits reflect diverse
cultures, periods, aesthetic styles and movements. The Museum is accredited by
the American Association of Museums and operates with an annual budget of
approximately $450,000. It is overseen by a Board of Trustees composed of 27
business and community leaders.

restaurants, and motels. It also boasts the Radium Hot Springs - an underground
spring that spews 70,000 gallons of crystal-clear mineral water each minute
from a cave beneath the town. Other attractions in the neighborhood include Radium Springs Gardens, one of Georgia's Seven Natural Wonders. Here you'll find a
courtyard where once stood Radium Springs Casino, as well as foliage-draped
hillocks and exotic plants alike.
